Hata’s sacking shows Umno-BN’s media chokehold, says Kok

KUALA LUMPUR, May 3 –Hata Wahari’s sacking from Utusan Malaysia today reveals both Umno’s and the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) government’s media chokehold, said DAP lawmaker Teresa Kok.
The opposition politician voiced her concern on the Umno-owned paper’s decision to fire the senior journalist, which is incidentally World Press Freedom Day.
Kok (picture) also called on all reporters, especially those in the mainstream media, to fight for the return of press freedom and continue to raise the bar in journalism.
“Hata Wahari’s sacking is not a small battle between one reporter and his employer. His termination from employment should be regarded seriously by all Malaysians because it shows how limited press freedom is in Malaysia, and the media monopoly by Umno and other BN component parties,” Kok said in a statement.

KUALA LUMPUR, An expert witness today outlined scenarios of Teoh Beng Hock's fall based on scientific analysis to the Comission of Inquiry investigating the death of the political aide.
Prof Sallehuddin Muhamad, a lecturer at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia's (UTM mechanical engineering faculty, said he was asked by the commission's independent investigator Michael Leslie Squires to analyse Teoh's fall at Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam using scientific techniques.

He said based on his analysis, there were two likely scenarios of how Teoh fell to his death.

One, he said, was with the air resistance effect or a free fall to the ground at an angle of 4.75 degrees and the other without the effect, whereby Teoh could have been pushed out of the window horizontally or downwards.

Sallehuddin, who also specializes in aircraft accident investigations, said the first scenario would indicate suicide and the second homicide.

He said under the first, it would be likely that Teoh sat on the window ledge before free-falling to his death.

He discounted the possibility that Teoh could have jumped out of the window as its size did notpermit this.

Teoh, 30, who was the political aide of Selangor executive councillor Ean Yong Hian Wah, was found dead on the fifth floor corridor of Plaza Masalam in

Shah Alam on July 16, 2009, after being questioned overnight at the Selangor MACC office

The dilemma of what to do with Osama bin Laden's body appears to have been quickly resolved if reports that he has been buried at seaprove correct.
Burying him on land could have led to his grave becoming a centre of contention as well as raising questions about where he should be buried.
"Finding a country willing to accept the remains of the world's most wanted terrorist would have been difficult," a US official said, adding: "So the US decided to bury him at sea."

UMNO Tidak Akan Gadai Prinsip Perjuangannya - Muhyiddin

- BERNAMA

US warns Pak of more commando strikes
Washington: The US will again carry out special operations in Pakistan if required like the attack that killed Osama bin Laden to target high profile terrorists, a top White House official said, asserting this had been "very successful".
Notwithstanding the reaction from Pakistan that America's covert operation against bin Laden was an "unauthorised unilateral action", White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said the Obama Administration would continue with this policy if that country does not act against terror suspects holed up in that country.
The Obama Administration at the same time said the al Qaeda leader would have been taken alive had he surrendered to the US commandos but maintained that its covert operation in Abbottabad deep inside Pakistan on Sunday to kill him was
conducted in a manner fully consistent with the laws of war.
US warns Pak of more commando strikes

Carney told reporters the US believes that the 09/11 mastermind was brought to justice in the helicopter raid and that it is entirely appropriate given the circumstances."It's a hypothetical, but certainly that method was very effective and was entirely lawful. I certainly wouldn't want to preclude the use of that method by anything I might say from here," Carney said.

Carney's remark came in response to a question.
